UK-based SIG Design and Technology’s Roofing Design Technical Blog has a wonderfully specialized focus: Flat roofs.
“The blog aims to demystify flat roofing for the specifier and includes posts about single ply, hot melt and liquid waterproofing plus green roofs and metal roofing and cladding,” writes nominator Su Butcher. “The blog is a mixture of product comparisons, case studies for learning and various other topics investigated from the architects/specifiers perspective.”
This blog has been hugely successful since its inception in early 2013. In the first two years as well as attracting 831 blog subscribers and hundreds of comments, the blog produced a 285% increase in content downloads from the website and an eightfold increase in contact form enquiries for the company. Its most popular blog post (http://www.singleply.co.uk/why-is-zinc-roofing-and-cladding-so-popular-with-architects/) has over 33 comments.
This focus and engagement indicates the blog is achieving its aims — and it is a great example of how a blog can be effective in technical and specialized fields. Obviously, you won’t spend much time here if you aren’t interested in flat roof issues, but if you either need the information for a project-at-hand or are in the roofing (construction or design) business, you will find it to be of genuine value.
It is a worthy entry in the 2016 Best Construction Blog competition. Voting closes March 31. You can submit your ballot through the links below.
