There was an incredible surge in voting in the final balloting day for the 2016 Best Construction Blog competition. I counted more than 240 entries in the 24 hours, most from the Motorhard and Whirlwind Steel blogs. ?Whirlwind gathered enough votes (265) to surpass last year’s overall competition winner, Tocci Building Companies, which ended up with 238 votes. ?The Motorhard blog surge also was impressive — and a third-place finish with 207 votes.
Overall, there were 1,172 votes cast (several voters selected more than one finalist.)
This voting strength will certainly be a factor in determining the overall competition winner, but all of the blogs who made the finalist list have a shot at success. The independent judges can look at other elements including writing and design quality and relevance. ?This judging process, as I’ve mentioned previously, offsets the limitations of a pure popular vote system –because large companies with many employees and subcontractors can create massive “get out the vote” campaigns that are hard to overcome by smaller, independent and often truly effective bloggers.
It will take a few weeks for the judges to review the entries, and the winner will be announced on Friday, April 29.
