Awards competitions can be powerful marketing tools because, if you win, you can apply the recognition your other marketing materials in a brand-enhancing process.
The story is somewhat different for internal industry marketing awards, such as the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS) Marketing Communications Awards.
While it probably doesn’t hurt your personal/internal branding reputation to win these awards, I think their main value is for you to learn about what others have done, to see if you can apply the concepts in your own marketing.

I’ve been a finalist judge in several of the competitions in previous years, and although I cannot speak for other panelists, my vote always was based on the marketer’s validation of the campaign’s effectiveness. If the concept achieved meaningful results for a similar business/practice in a non-competitive market, why not apply it in your own community?
