Jon Goldman makes an important point in his weekly eletter, in which he asks what is most important for building lasting business success.
The key, he suggests, is to think less selfishly and more in encouraging/investing and building the lives of others.
Of course, we need to take care of ourselves to live. But if the story is all about “me, me me” I doubt in the end we will have much to show for our selfish world-view.
From a marketing perspective, when we consider that marketing/brand success comes down to trust, genuinely earned trust must be based on truly caring about the interests of your employees, suppliers, and past, current and future clients. You might be able to scam people and organizations with false trust for a while, but does it lead to lasting success. I doubt it.
