Matt Handal is a master of attention-getting prose and his headline on a recent email and video shows how you can achieve a double-take:

Our immediate reaction: He’s nuts. I mean, would you go up to a client and whack him or her in the face . . . Call security! Of course, Handal chose his words carefully, and what he means is much simpler: Remember the real interest of the prospective clients in writing your proposals/resumes and focus them on the topic at hand. (In other words, as he says, if you are responding to a RFP for a new library, tell about the libraries you’ve built or designed, not the heavy waste-water treatment sites.)
