Voting has closed for the 2014 Best Construction Blog competition, with 1,635 entries, and some solid competition between larger organizations and relatively small, independent businesses. Sage Construction and Real Estate won the popular vote portion of the competition, with 312 votes, but last year’s overall winner, Gould Design Inc. achieved an impressive 257 votes. Voting was truly diversified. Even with the pulling power of an international corporation, Sage collected slightly less than 20 per cent of the votes.

You can view the finalists and the entire voting result table here.

The next stage of the competition will take some time to complete. We’ll ask the independent judges to review the blog’s design, frequency, editorial content, and reader interaction, to assess the blogs. If you wish, you can download the judging criteria here. I don’t overly police the judges. There isn’t any financial compensation for finalists, winners or judges, so there isn’t need to be overly strict.

Ultimately everyone who enters the competition still gains benefit. Within the next few weeks, after reviewing that the blogs are still active, I’ll ensure they are permanently hyperlinked in this blog’s reference section. I’ll of course provide special recognition to the top bloggers through individual video interviews in May.
