The social mapping device at http://inmaps.linkedinlabs.com/network, in my case, suggests three clusters: Connections through the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), contractors, subtrades and others who have connected with me through my Construction Marketing Ideas blog, and local Ottawa-area connections.
Is this map useful? Well I can’t see any immediate applications, because my view is that if the map shows strengths in some aspects and not much in others, then maybe that simply reflects the practical nature of our social networks. We would presumably be forcing things to create a different map, unless the relationships really change.
Nevertheless, this is an interesting visualization and you might want to try it for yourself.
