Three simple construction marketing ideas

Be first.  Be yourself.  Be true.

Can the Construction Marketing Ideas concepts be boiled down to these simple values?  I suppose you can debate the point; you can be “first” at something totally wrong, you could be obnoxious, irritating and totally uninterested in the needs of your clients and you can be so honest that you blow potential business away by sharing irrelevant and unnecessary negative details.

But you won’t go wrong in testing any marketing approach against these three values and if you can’t obtain a positive answer to each of them, you may wish to consider a redirection.

For example, in Be First,  if you are thinking about setting up a local FaceBook page for your business and your direct competitors aren’t there yet, you have a great “be first” opportunity (though you certainly won’t be the first architect, engineer or contractor to set up a FaceBook page.)  So what should you do if your competitor is already there?  Can you define yourself or your specialty further so you are first within that space.

Be Yourself is the test against your interests, values and strengths. If you distaste the marketing approach you need to be cautious.  Sure, you can succeed in a variety of methods and your values may not align with your values so you need to use methods you wouldn’t like yourself.  (For example, if you are wealthy and sell services to lower/middle income people you may need to reach their level in your marketing.)  But it is much easier to sustain the process and overcome  pitfalls if you enjoy the process and look forward to your work each day.  If not, you will need to find (and pay) others to take care of business for you.

Be True is the integrity test.  Maybe you can live with dishonesty and sleaze — not everyone plays by the rules.  But I sense unless you are a psychopath you will want to be sure that whatever you do meets your and your community’s standards for integrity.
